Video Assignment
Please record and share your video by August 12, 2024. Instructions and tips are included below.
Videos generate the most engagement on social media. Many of you have already created a video for your GiftWorks’ campaign in the past. We’d like you to create and share another video focused on the topic of “how a transplant will change my life”.
Instructions
- Please record your video by August 12thth.
- After you have recorded the video, please post it to Facebook or your preferred social media network. You can post to more than one. IMPORTANT: include your GiftWorks’ website url when you post your video. You can put it in the text area. For example: For those interested in learning more about becoming my living kidney donor, please go to my site at ADD YOUR URL HERE.
- Tell each of your advocates your video is LIVE and ask them to share it. Also reach out to friends and family to share your video.
- Below, you will find an example script, but it’s very important you make this video your OWN. This means it should sound like you and come from your heart with words you would choose.
- You may record your video alone or with your family surrounding you. If it is hard for you to speak or you are struggling, it is OK to ask a family member to speak for you, but you must appear in the video.
- We’ve included basic tips below for recording on a mobile device.
- Once your video is posted, text the GiftWorks’ team to let us know you completed this assignment.
Mobile Recording Tips
- Hold your phone steady: Use both hands to hold your phone steady while recording to avoid shaky footage or have it securely propped on a table or desk.
- Find good lighting: Natural light is usually best. Avoid backlighting which can make you appear dark in the video.
- Clean the lens: Wipe off any smudges or fingerprints on the camera lens to ensure a clear picture.
- Frame your shot: Make sure you’re centered in the frame and there’s no clutter in the background.
- Speak clearly and loudly: Enunciate your words and speak loudly enough for the phone’s microphone to pick up your voice.
- Slow down: make sure you do not speak too fast.
- Review before sharing: Watch your video after recording to make sure everything looks and sounds good before sharing it.
- Take it easy: Relax, smile, and speak from your heart. Do not overthink it – progress over perfection!
Example Script Idea
“Hi everyone! It’s hard for me to do this, but I wanted to update you on my search for a living kidney donor. Know that it’s not easy for me to put myself out there like this, but receiving a kidney transplant is something I pray for every day. I’ve had people step forward to donate, but a donor has not been found, yet. This means I am still waiting, hoping, and praying someone will choose to step forward and ultimately save my life.
Getting a kidney transplant will change my life in so many ways. I’m looking forward to being healthy again so I can (tell us what your are most looking forward to, what things do you hope to achieve after your transplant).
Words cannot describe what a gift this would be to receive.
It scares me knowing that it can take up to five years to get a deceased donor transplant, and time is not on my side. Your generosity could literally save my life.
I’m hopeful that if I keep sharing my story, someone will see it and feel inspired. I know it takes tremendous courage to even consider being a kidney donor. Just know I am incredibly appreciative of your consideration.”
