What is a living kidney donor?
A living kidney donor is someone who chooses to donate one of their kidneys to help a person whose kidneys are failing. Because people can live healthy lives with one kidney, living donation is possible and often leads to excellent outcomes for recipients.
Do I have to know the recipient personally to donate?
No. Some donors give to a family member or friend, while others choose to help someone they have never met. Both types of donation save lives.
What happens after I submit the contact form?
A Living Donor Navigator from GiftWorks will reach out to you privately to answer questions and provide information about the living donation process. If you decide to move forward, they will help guide you to the appropriate transplant center for evaluation.
Will my information be kept confidential?
Yes. Your privacy is important. Any information you share is handled confidentially and only shared with medical teams if you decide to pursue evaluation as a donor.
What if I can’t donate but still want to help?
You can make a tremendous difference simply by sharing a recipient’s story. Many living donors first learn about someone in need because a friend, coworker, or family member shared a post or website. Helping a story reach more people can ultimately help someone find their lifesaving donor.
